Ami Vitale is a photojournalist.
She is also one of my heroes.
Based in India, but working throughout Asia, Africa and the Middle East, she handles freelance assignments for The New York Times, Newsweek, Time and other major publications.
She documents stories in places where most of us can't imagine going—or have never heard of—capturing deeply moving images in countries plagued by poverty, famine, or war.
Her photographs resonate with a deep sense of understanding and compassion. Technically, they outstanding. Aesthetically, they often achieve high art. She has won multiple awards.

Otherworldly Photos
Photographer Gregory Colbert has been traveling around the globe for the past few years taking pictures of humans interacting with animals in ways that leave you thunderstruck. A collection of these photos, called Ashes and Snow, has been shown in worldwide exhibitions to rave reviews. Colbert has also created a film and a novel based on the theme.
