March 5 2017 - Unusual Sosaku Kokeshi With Blue Kimono

This rather unusual vintage kokeshi doll was made in 1969. We love her sleepy eyes, "kappa" hairstyle and a powder blue kimono. The hand-carved detailing is wonderful. Available on our Etsy site.

A lovely example of a super-cute vintage wooden kokeshi doll, hand-carved and hand-painted in Japan in 1971 (base is annotated with date: Showa 54, February 28. Showa 54=1971).

Nice traditional design with a bit of mid-century modern flavor thrown in.
