Feb 28 2017 - Lovely Award Winning Woodgrain Kokeshi Doll

New in our Etsy store. An elegant woodgrain kokeshi doll with long hair and a rich red-brown kimono and gorgeous hand carved floral detail. Handmade by artist Hajime Miyashita, this vintage kokeshi doll won a design award from the Japanese government.

A lovely example of a super-cute vintage wooden kokeshi doll, hand-carved and hand-painted in Japan in 1971 (base is annotated with date: Showa 54, February 28. Showa 54=1971).

Nice traditional design with a bit of mid-century modern flavor thrown in.
