As of March 19, Japan's National Police Agency, which provides official statistics on casualties, says nearly 7,000 are dead and over 10,000 missing following the earthquakes and tsunamis that occurred on March 11.
The following official stats are from the Japan Police Agency and are current as of 10 am March 15:
Confirmed dead: 2,475
Confirmed missing: 3,118
Confirmed injured: 1,889
Note that these are very conservative figures. Many experts believe that the final death count will be in the tens of thousands. In northern Japan, officials say at least 17,000 people are unaccounted for.
